F1 Team Opts For Nature-Based Carbon Removal Units to Drive Sustainability Goals

Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One (F1) team is deepening its commitment to sustainability with a new investment in nature-based carbon removal projects. Announced Thursday, the initiative will support large-scale reforestation efforts in the Southeastern United States, reinforcing the team’s long-term strategy to reduce its carbon footprint and reach net zero by 2040.

The investment will contribute to the restoration of 200 hectares of degraded land, where over 260,000 native trees will be planted. This initiative will generate high-quality carbon removal credits, helping the F1 team offset its future emissions and advance its goal of achieving net zero race team-controlled emissions by 2030.

Mercedes-AMG Petronas has secured a forward delivery agreement for approximately 5,500 nature-based carbon removal credits between 2027 and 2030, ensuring long-term access to carbon offset solutions as part of its decarbonisation roadmap.

‘By investing in Chestnut Carbon now, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team is securing nature-based carbon removal credits to compensate for future residual emissions and encouraging the growth of this key sector,’ the team stated.

As corporate sustainability commitments grow, demand for nature-based carbon credits is accelerating. Companies worldwide are investing in reforestation and conservation projects to balance emissions while driving long-term environmental and economic benefits. This reflects a broader industry shift, where businesses are integrating both nature-based and technology-driven carbon solutions to meet their decarbonisation targets.

With voluntary carbon markets expanding rapidly, businesses have more opportunities than ever to secure high-quality carbon credits and play a role in global climate action. The latest investment from the F1 team highlights the increasing reliance on nature-based solutions as a key tool for achieving sustainability goals.
