Honda Backs Regenerative Farming Through Fresh Soil Carbon Deal

Honda has broadened its environmental commitments in the US by acquiring 1,800 soil carbon removal credits from a leading regenerative agriculture programme. The move reflects a growing shift among global companies toward carbon solutions that both cut emissions and strengthen on-the-ground sustainability in farming communities.

The credits were generated across 214,000 acres of farmland managed by 150 producers in Alabama, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, and South Carolina. Each farm applies regenerative practices—cover cropping, reduced tillage, diversified crop rotations, and more targeted nitrogen use—to boost soil health and increase carbon stored in the ground.

Honda emphasised that this latest step builds on decades of collaboration with agricultural communities near its US facilities. “For over 40 years, Honda has supported farmers near our Ohio operations through conservation programs that protect farmland and help expand access to markets for their crops,” said Mahjabeen Qadir, sustainability strategy lead at Honda Development & Manufacturing of America. “Now, Honda is building on that history by supporting regenerative agriculture practices that help farmers manage climate challenges and maintain healthy farmland for future generations,” Qadir added.

Across the country, regenerative agriculture technologies are being used at scale to improve soil function while delivering verified environmental benefits. Projects registered under the Climate Action Reserve (CAR) use measurable soil carbon improvements to issue certified credits, creating a pathway for farmers to increase resilience, improve water efficiency, and generate new revenue streams. Millions of acres now operate under these methodologies, contributing to hundreds of thousands of tonnes of quantified CO₂ removals.

Honda’s decision to purchase soil-based carbon removals signals a broader commitment to integrating nature-based solutions into its sustainability planning. By choosing credits linked to regenerative land management, the company is reinforcing long-term agricultural resilience while supporting credible, measurable environmental outcomes.
