Thailand Opens Forestry Platform for Carbon Project Growth

A new digital platform from Thailand’s carbon management authority is designed to remove coordination barriers between private project developers and the government agencies that oversee the country’s forests and land resources.

Thailand’s Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation (TGO) built the TGO Forestry Platform to formalise public-private collaboration in forest-based carbon credit development. The tool connects developers directly with three national agencies: the Royal Forest Department, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, and the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources.

Through an interactive map, users can view active projects, browse community forest areas available for developer engagement, and run sequestration potential assessments on specific locations. The platform is accessible at forest.tgo.or.th.

‘The government aims to increase carbon sequestration capacity to 120 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2037, maintaining this level through 2050,’ said Preeyaporn Suwannakes, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. The platform is positioned as a long-term coordination mechanism to support Thailand in meeting those targets through expanded private-sector participation in forestry carbon projects.
